Compiled Reports in CRX?

    Hello

I am running CRX and we use Control M to schedule reports.  According to the company's website, you can create a .EXE and run it on the Windows Command prompt.

The problem is (as you will see below), there's no REPORT, COMPILED REPORT functionality in CRX.  Evidently, this has changed.

"To create a Compile Report within Crystal, go into Crystal Reports and open a report,  from the menu select REPORT | COMPILED REPORT.  The Compile Report dialog box will be displayed.  You have the option to rename the report name.  By default, Crystal Reports uses the report name and changes the file extension from .RPT to .EXE."

    Can anyone assist with this?

    Thanks.

    ps

I think that went away with Crystal 9. One option perhaps would be to build a simple (well, relatively simple) VB application that contains an embedded report (or perhaps could be passed a .rpt filename via the command line) and pushes the output to a PDF file.

Thanks.  I've also been searching the incredibly complex new Business Objects KB.  I have to tell you, it makes the Lawson KB look like the simplest thing ever known to man.

You are correct about that. The integration of BO into SAP's support has been a nightmare.

What a mess for sure. Last night I stumbled upon the location of the BO product guides: http://help.sap.com/busin...ject/product_guides/

Still searching for the old KB articles. Anybody found the new location for these?

George Peck from the Ablaze Group wrote a pretty good article in his newsletter about the BO/SAP support fiasco (http://www.ablazegroup.co...mmer2008.asp).

There are some free or very cheap crystal report viewers on the market.... Also, I had a report in version 9 that I compiled in version 8.5 once and it worked well. For many of them you can create a compiled report and then replace the .rpt file. You will need to accept that you will be getting the "features" in an older version but I know it works.

** I think you would be better off to find a crystal viewer. there were some listed on http://www.kenhamady.com/ Click the "links" button... good luck

In fact, I wrote one myself for a client; it could probably be adapted to support input/output parameters in order to meet your Control-M scheduling requirements.

                    John,

You should put yours in your "Store"... I think you would find that some would be willing to purchase a simple tool for compiling/viewing reports.

Due to some tricky licensing language, I only deliver it to a client in conjunction with consulting.

Here's an article from BO/SAP on this topic: https://boc.sdn.sap.com/node/20036

BTW, don't get too excited about the "viewer" they now provide -- it doesn't allow refresh, you have to save the data with the report .rpt file, so it's a static viewer.
