    Hello - Our organization is undergoing a Lawson implementation, and we're in the earlier stages of implementation.  Management has been looking to benchmark it's implementation practices against other organizations in the same line of business and of similar size, and there are some questions that have been raised.   The organization profile is:

    Organization Type: Hospital / Health System
    # of Employees:  13,000
    Modules:  Financial / Supply Chain / HR & Payroll

    I  was hoping that someone would be able to help out with any direction in these questionable areas.   Any advice or comments would be appreciated. 

    1.)  What modules were implemented...were they Phase 1 and Phase 2 implementations?

    2.)  Has anyone implemented Kronos along with Lawson?  What are some challenges / What did it take to get the job done / Did everything work properly?

    3.)  What did the implementation team consist of?  Were outside business partners (consultants/advisors) involved & how many?  How many Lawson consultants were involved in addition to the business partners?

    4.) How long did it take to complete each phase of the implementation?

      I haven't done an implementation, but I have worked in a a very similar org and went through multiple upgrades and module additions.

      1) Implement all modules you want at the same time. Doing different phases of modules will create extra work in building mappings between legacy systems and lawson for the period of time between phases.

      2) We put in Kronos. It was a 2 year disaster. Support from Kronos was nearly non-existent. It didn't work right even after I left. I have heard many similar horror stories from other Kronos clients.

      3) If I were to do an implementation or major upgrade now I would hire Lawson Professional Services. They are not the cheapest option, but they do have the most training and resources, plus you can apply pressure on your account rep if you feel they are not meeting expectations. Also, I hear that they do offer some discounts if you negotiate their services into the purchase of the software.

      4) Lawson 9 has basically been a new implementation for all customers. I would shoot for 12 months end-to-end for the project. This includes planning, design, testing, implementation.

        I will use the words "it depends" as a very general guideline for an NEW implementation of Lawson. If you've got an existing Lawson system and are looking to upgrade, then things get different.

        For a new LSF9 environment implementation, the install of just LSF9 only (no applications) itself could take from a week to a month. Depends on what type of platform (unix, or windows), users (using existing corporate LDAP or new one), .. .also do you already have hardware, sofware purchased?

        So many factors come into play it's difficult to give you a time estimate because every company is different.

        From my experience, I've seen environment implementation in one phase and apps in another. Then there is LSF9 security if you plan to use it. There is training too. Then interfaces, customizations, etc.

        Regarding Kronos. Kronos can work well but it depends on how it's installed and configured. And how well your people are trained to use it. I've seen some good implementations. Feeds to and from Lawson work OK.

        Since you are a hospital, you are probably looking at RSS (for procurement) along with other Portal Products.

        If you're looking at Lawson Professional Services, I would also suggest you look at other options, for not only price but also skill, qualitiy and knowledge level of the consultants. This isn't necessarily a knock on LPS, but there are other companies who do a great job at a better price.
