LSO - Not a "Must"O

Today again, I know of other clients who were somehow, by attending user group meetings, or hearing it 2nd or 3rd hand from others, were under the impression that, as Lawson S3 customers, would be FORCED to use LSO in Infor 10.

To me, this is misinformation or misinterpretation.

For version 10 S3, you have the OPTION of licensing, installing and implementing LSO. It is NOT A "MUST HAVE" for version 10.

In version 10 S3, super users and self services users will have Workspace (with Portal) to use. You will have also the option of using LSO as an additional user interface. LSO for S3 is NOT a requirement.

Now, I know that every customer is different with different needs and requirements but really, I am getting tired of hearing that LSO is a "must". Now if I am wrong on this, it would be *great* if someone can explain in clear, understandable and defensible language why LSO is required and is a must for *EVERYONE* for version 10 as we know it today. (Maybe it is for M3, but I don't work with M3 so I don't know.)

LID goes away for super users; it still can be used for system admins.

You are absolutely correct, LSO is an option--not a requirement.

Can anyone point me to documentation from Infor stating that Smart Office is not required after upgrading to Lawson 10. We are under the impression that Employee/Manager Self Service will be through Workspace and that all other application areas will be through Smart Office.

This is COMPLETELY INCORRECT (and since I'm working with upgrade beta clients, I know it first-hand).
I would ask where did you get this misinformation?
My guess is that someone is trying to sell you LSO -- but it is absolutely not required.

From the "Infor10 Lawson S3 Frequently Asked Questions" document (you can find it on the "Lawson S3 10 Information Center" page on mylawson.com):

          32. Is Lawson Smart Office being replaced?
No. Lawson Smart Office is the go-forward user interface experience for trained departmental users of our Lawson S3 and Lawson M3 solutions. In fact, Lawson Smart Office changes the way work is done. Lawson Smart Office is the rich-client, user interface (UI) choice for Lawson S3 power users, while Infor10 Workspace (thin-client, Web UI) becomes the day-to-day choice for the casual enterprise user.

          33. What is Infor10 Workspace?
Infor10 Workspace is the browser-based container in which Infor10 ap-plications and Lawson S3 10 applications operate. Infor10 Workspace provides a modern, personal and intuitive way to interact with the system, accessed simply via a web browser for casual and self-service users. The familiar Lawson S3 applications forms are presented in the Infor10 Workspace container.

          37. If a customer is operating the Lawson Portal exclusively, do they need Lawson Smart Office?
If a customer has moved completely to the Lawson Portal and only uses Lawson Interactive Desktop (LID) for administrative functions, then that customer would not necessarily need Lawson Smart Office. With Lawson S3 10, the Lawson Portal goes away. The replacement is Infor10 Workspace.

Here is an excerpt from the FAQ document titled "Infor10 Lawson S3 Frequently Asked Questions". This document is available on mylawson.com under the Critical Notifications area, dated Feb 10, 2012. This is question # 37 on page 13. Actually the entire document is a good read for basic questions about Infor direction-type statements.

"If a customer is operating the Lawson Portal exclusively, do they need Lawson Smart Office?

If a customer has moved completely to the Lawson Portal and only uses Lawson Interactive Desktop (LID) for administrative functions, then that customer would not necessarily need Lawson Smart Office. With Lawson S3 10, the Lawson Portal goes away. The replacement is Infor10 Work-space.

If you want more proof, documentation, other statements, etc. then I would suggest you contact your CAE. Since Inforum is next month, that would be a perfect place to get even more clarification.

When we did our initial "What's coming with Infor 10" investigation about 9 months ago we understood that Portal was not available in Infor 10.  The two options for Infor 10 are LSO or Infor Workspace.  That's been the message for some time.

                Hi Jim,
Portal really doesn't "go away". It's really "just inside" of Workspace as is rebranded or called something else - S3 for Workspace. Users go to a website to use Lawson, just like they did or do with Portal. The screens may look a little different in terms of font, sizing, format, etc. And your portal bookmarks are still there, albeit in a different place that the usual version 9 of Portal.

Figured something like that.  From many a user perspective it'll "go away" and is a need for training and communication even though technically the functionality is supposed to be similar.
