Has anyone utilized Lawson’s Item Master and Inventory to set-up a service only location?  This idea is to allow requestors to request defined internal services that have a defined cost.  Thanks for any help.

We are taking a different approach. Since we already have a requisition approval process (Flow), we are doing two different paths.
      1) We are building a location (IC02) to service as an internal service request location and building templates with the most common service items requested. In addition we are building a blanket order (PO25) that matches the service lines to provide cost. Once the request is approved, the requisition is rejected and an email is sent with the requisition lines and comments to the internal service provider. An email is sent to the requester explaining why the requisition indicates rejected.
      2) I built a bolt on flow for service agreement requests (Contract requests which we build primarily in PO25 although some are placed on PO20) and triggered by the quote flag on RQ10. Normal approvals apply and if flagged it starts a new flow with highly customized screens and approval options. Once approved the requisition must be handle d via PO23.

Can you describe the "internal services" you are looking to provide?

“Internal services” is best described as a group of departments that provide a set list of services (all services have a set price that could be modified each fiscal year) to all other departments within the institution.  Effectively this is just an internal transfer but it happens many times a month so an inventory solution could be a time saver.

          Thanks

Our services are research / scientific related (DNA Sequencing, DNA Mapping, Microinjection, etc.). Since these services are provided to PIs we only pass on our direct cost which is calculated once a year.

Were you thinking of making these I-type items?

Yes, these items would be associated with an inventory location that I would create for services only.

In that case, a couple of things to think through...
                  1. You will need a way to replenish the SOH (i.e. PO Receipts or IC Receipts) so that there a always allocatable quantities available for the Requesters.
                  2. Accounting (auditing) rules dictate that you show a basis cost. If you want to have a defined cost, you must have a financial entry related to those receipts.
                  2. You will probably want the GL team to create a special ICCategory that moves the financial entry off of the typical Inventory account(s).
