We currently calculate OT based on a 40 hour work week and are considering switching to a calculation of 80 hours in a pay period.

I am thinking that we will need to create new pay plans.  Is there any other set up that will need to be changed?  I am also thinking that once I assign the new pay plans to the employees, the PR132 will calcualte the rate of pay based on the complete 2 week pay period instead of looking at each week.

Our actual OT hours are calculated in KRONOS so I know we will need to change rules there.

Are my assumptions correct?  Am I missing something?

I think the only thing you need to have set up is the Hours pieces of the Pay Plan on PR21 (days in work period, hours in work period, maximum hours per day). Also make sure the Calculate Overtime Hours is set to no since Kronos is doing that calculation for you.

Does anyone pay OT this way? I am trying to find out the advantage. We have a lot of employees who work 10 or 12 hour shifts. It looks to me as if all hours over 8 in a day would need to be paid at OT based on the 8/80 rule.

          Margie,

We have a small group of employees assigned to this payrule in Kronos.  Within our company they are staff that work 8 hours days sometimes more than 5 days a week and then will have some days off.  I would say it is a very limited group and HR reviews the group closely.  I do believe their are FLSA rules attached to this type of overtime.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss more,
