This field (EAD-CHECK-DESC) shows as optional but it is actually required. Does anyone know why it is required and if there is a way to make it truly optional
and/or default an entry in it?

I'm assuming you are attempting to mass load direct deposits via PR512.

That field is the bank's name. If you have the bank setup already on the apporpriate table, then the field is optional. But if you are using routing numbers that don't already exist on the bank table, you have to provide the bank's name there. That will create the entry on the bank table, so either fill the field appropriately or pre-setup your banking table.

        Hi Sam,
Actually this is the Payment Description field on PR12 - it looks like the bank's name is EAD-DESCRIPTION.
And what I am trying to do is enable the Direct Deposit task in ESS but we don't want employees to fill in whatever
they want to in the payment description field. Any ideas on that?

Ah, sorry, I am still fresh off learning the previously mentioned lesson from the PR512 when I accidently loaded our test system with a bunch of banks named "Checking" and "Savings" during an attempt at cleaning up our old accounts. :-)

In my view, the whole point of that Description field in ESS was to allow the employee to give nicknames to the accounts.

I think you'd need to customize ESS if you wanted to preempt its function for your own purposes.

One of the items that is currently in discussion here is locking down the ability to edit certain accounts via ESS (i.e. if you've been setup with a pay card) and customizing ESS to remove/lock down the field is part of the suggestion we received on how to do that.

Sounds like fun - at least it was test What I am having a hard time with is why the payment description field is REQUIRED as opposed to truly optional. I found somewhere in the documentation
that it was required for Canada but we aren't in Canada. I think I might log something with Infor and see if I can actually get an answer.

Do you know which file has the direct deposit messages in it? I've looked at the .htm's in the xhrnet/directdeposit file and the jslib file.

Check out ddhelp.htm and ddmsgs.xml, used by directdepositlib.js

ddmsgs.xml was exactly what I was looking for - thanks so much!
