WE would like to allow employees to add their education degrees (pa20 data) via ESS.  The problem I am encountering is that  if you have nothing listed or a current degreee with the verified flag as a "Y", the data the employee enters will have the flag set to a "Y".  Unless someone completes primary source verification, we need the flag to be set to a "N".

Has anyone encountered this?  What did you do to fix it?

    Thanks for your help.

QA reports that track what degree rows have an 'ESS' userid stamp on them indicate for us which ones need to be reviewed and verified. Anything touched via ESS requires (re)verification.

If the flag would at least just default to one value or the other when someone came through ESS and made a change, it'd be OK. You could treat the Y as "Yes needs to be verified".

But it only defaults to Y if someone adds a row. If they just go in and update the degree information, it keeps whatever the flag was previously set to. Which means you could verfied their GED and tomorrow they could go back in and change it to be a PhD from Harvard and using that flag you'd be none the wiser.

I really need the flag to be an N if the employee added it since it has not been verified. We would then report on what was entered and verify. As it is now, we would need to manually touch all the records.

Have you looked at changing the ESS product to default the "N"?

In the meantime I have entered a regulatory Enhancement since it is a TJC and Dept of Health requirement that degrees be verified by the primary source.

While that would be an easy answer, the problem still remains that if the employee goes in and updates the row, the verified flag doesn't update in either direction.

So once you've marked something as verified it's essentially verified for life regardless of what the employee does to the row. It might be possible to customize ESS to both default and force any updates via it to flip the flag in one direction, but we haven't explored that option yet.

Good point. I was looking at our immediate need. Thanks for pointing out the rest of the story. I think I will update my request to reflect the change issue.

We added education self-identification to our open enrollment pathway last year and were faced with the same issue. As a solution our IT department did a couple of customizations within ESS. They made a change were any education that had a verified=Y flag would show as display only and any education entered through ESS would go in with verified=N.
