Does anyone store medical insurance ID numbers in Lawson for their employees?  We now have a need to, and our ID's are 12 digits in length.  The User Fields on HR11 will only allow 9 digits.

We do not store insurance ID numbers but we do store other types of linked ID's for other things.

If you use an alpha user field you get 30 characters. I have also used employee comments for items like this in the past when we did not really want another user field or to use another unused field.

For example, we stored a system ID that linked to an external system and in the comments I used ATUID:1234567897845 etc. The ATUID: allowed me to quickly find this ID and when I exported it onto an interface file I just exported anything after the ATUID:

But using an alpha user field should work for your need.

I tried an alpha vs numeric user field on HR11, and it's giving me an error that the limit is 10 characters.

I'll explore your employee comments suggestion. Thank you!

I just tried it. If you created values, the description of the value is 30 but you can only enter 13 characters on the screen as free text.
The help text has more info on it.

Boy I failed bad with that one... you are correct - I was using the code description when I referenced the 30 characters... obviously that will not work then.

One more section I have used to store things like this is in the Spouse address fields. I know some places actually use this for what it is but a lot do not. Just another thought (since I failed badly with my first post)

If they are enrolled in the plan via the BN module, you can use BN90 comments; another option is to use employee contracts (PA27).
neither solution is ideal, but just ideas.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I think I'll look into the comments. I like BN90 since it's connected to the benefit.

Do be aware that BN90 is employee-specific, but not specific to a particular benefit for that employee.
