    Hi,

We are currently using Lawson HR and Financial. We are at 9.0.0 using db2 database in Unix and we are planning to migrate from db2 to Oracle next year and go from 9.0.0 to 9.0.1.
We have a lot of interfaces and customizations. An outside company is hosting our Lawson system and they told us that they will recompile everything and that the change will be transparent for us.

Are the file names or field names changing? Does someone has any experience with this?

    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lorena.

You are using db2 to host your Lawson data? You will find that no table names or field names are changing. (although you may be (and probably will be) adding tables and fields) with the upgrade to 9.0.1.

We've noticed that our RQ500 interface changed a little bit... (specs are available for 9.0.1 on the KB) IC and GL pretty much stayed the same.

We have been using Oracle to hold our Lawson data for many years!

Make sure that they run the cmp* commands in $GENDIR/bin... but since they are used to hosting Lawson sites, they are probably more than aware of all of this!

Really Lawson just looks at the database, as a spot to keep the data.. Not really caring what flavor it is. (although that is changing slightly with their partnership with IBM).

        Hi Greg,
Thank you for the information. Currently we are using db2 and Velocity is hosting our Lawson system. It will still be hosted by them but we are moving from db2 to oracle.
Did you have any issues in the HR side?

        Thanks,
        Lorena.

The HR side gets hit the most with the upgrade to 9.0.1. I think we've been through 3 or 4 versions of ESS alone to address issues. (*Which your site will benefit from by not having the pain that we did.)
I'll see if I can track down a list of our upgrade "issues" and forward that to you.

Do you have MSCM installed as well? How about LBI?

Lorena: I'd also recommend downloading the Difference Documents (Release Notes) for the MSP's. Available on the KB. Go through at least msp2 msp3 msp4 and msp5 docs. (*Depending on which msp version that they will install for you.) I think we found the RQ500 changes with msp3. GTIN and GLN are the 2 biggest differences on the Materials side. Not sure about HR--- I just know that they got hit the most with the upgrade to 9.0.1.

              Greg,
I will download the kb documents. If you can give me a copy of your upgrade issues, it will be great.
              We do have LBI.

Greg, I would also be interested in a list an "issues" list as we are about to do the 9.0.0 to 9.0.1 upgrade and do not have a lot of time to spare.

I also see that there have been many screens added. You'll want to evaluate if/who should have security to see these.

Most of the HR/PR issues are either security related issues or requests for ESS customizations that I can find.
I'm looking at the other areas to evaluate if there are any issues there.

The biggest issues that I see for all of our areas are:
                      1) New screens added to the core system that don't exist in any security roles. You can get those from the Release notes per your specific requirements.
                      2) When running jobs for the first time, you must create new ones, not run off of an existing job.
                      3) Since we upgraded to 9.0.1.2 MSP and 9.0.1.2 ESP first... most of those issues have been resolved already by PT's/CTP's We're now on 901.5 MSP and 901.7 ESP as of a month ago.
                      4) BSI updates (if you use BSI)

Thank you Greg. I really appreciate all your help. We also use BSI.

                        What about LBI? Any issues?

I just see one note regarding BSI. "Employee tax calculating forEmployee Work state instead of Home state" Resolution: Change the Reciprocity Functionality field to "NO and complete a begin and end date"
We may have updated/upgraded BSI versions when we did this, so it may not be a change, but rather something that was left out of the setup.

LBI --- Do NOT go to 9.0.4.1.156. There are problems with that code (of course that's what we are running). I've been advised to upgrade to at least 9.0.4.1.166 by GSC. If not to 9.0.4.2.x

                            Thank you Greg.
                            I have another question:
What happen with the design studio that we have attched to Lawson Programs when you upgrade to a new version?
Do I have to build them from scratch again?

You'll copy over the custom form directory as part of an upgrade step. I believe all that is required is for you to 'Rebuild Custom Form Index' and 'IOSCacheRefresh' in the Portal Administration bookmark group. If you are going to be changing product line names, there is a 'Set Custom Form Data Area' that you'll need to run first.
