I am looking to understand the general function of dbmode. We've recently have had turnover of our system admin person, and don't have anyone who has this general knowledge.

When you want to change to single user mode and put it to a user other than yourself, do you have to do su to that user first? (Which means that have to have authority to the su command.)  Or is there another way?

Yes, you would have to su to that user. Typically, this would all be done by the 'lawson' user.
Thanks for using the LawsonGuru.com forums!

Thanks, a couple more questions for clarification.

        1) Is there any other way to put the system into single user mode?

        2) To give a user permission to do the su and dbmode commands, it seems you have to give them an unrestricted shell.
          - What possible "bad things" could happen giving a general user an unrestricted shell.

We are trying to run jobs that needs the system in single user mode. (for a user in accounting.) How can our System Admin person do this?
