Turning hints off globally

    We found that if we turn hints off most batch jobs run much faster (30% to 60%). However this can only be done at a global level; meaning the parameter is in the ORACLE file and not in a program config file. The parameters is "USEHINTS=FALS".  Our DBA says that this is safe to do because Oracle is better at determining what access path is best to retrieve data for Lawson that Lawson hints. Has anyone done this and if so, what if any are reprecusions?
