Does anyone have information related to Lawson's on-going support plan for Essbase? We are in the midst of upgrading to Lawson 9.0 and Essbase 7.1. as well as evaluating our company's overall BI strategy. Our IT staff has heard rumors to the effect that Lawson's Essbase strategy is to offer support for one more version of Essbase then discontinue their support in favor of LBI.  If so, has an announcement been made concerning the date Essbase support would be discontinued?

I havent heard this rumor. Some things to consider
-Essbase isnt necessarily a competing product of LBI as it is one of the three options for a data source for Scorecard (the other two options being flat file and Microsofts Analysis Services. Hyperion Analyzer would a competing product of Scorecard
-Essbase is now owned by Oracle, not sure what complexities this has with a Lawson relationship but Essbase has worked with Lawson for quite some time

thats all I can offer. Let me know if you hear anything further.

While I was a client we moved our support directly to Hyperion soon after making the purchase through Lawson. Lawson is just level one support for Hyperion products anyway. Since becoming a Hyperion/Oracle partner and we have helped many Lawson clients make the switch to direct support. Lawson doesn’t make it easy but it is straightforward.

More than how the Oracle acquisition of Hyperion will effect users you should be questioning how the SAP purchase of Business Objects will affect your environment. SAP is also pushing OutlookSoft/BPC for budgeting, forecasting and consolidation.

There is normally no change to maintenance costs for making the change to Oracle/Hyperion support. The one factor to consider is when you current support will expire as Lawson will not credit clients who switch early. If you have any questions on the process feel free to call or email.

If you are loading essbase with a flat file extract from lawson, you could continue as long as you want to keep essbase.
