We are investigating adding our Cardiac Cath lab on as another perpetual inventory to consolidate the number of systems that our facility uses. One thing that they require for their items is lot number and expiration date tracking. I know Lawson has some screens for lot numbers but we've never even looked at them.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? If you flag an item as being lot number tracked, at which point does the lot number have to be entered into the system? Does it happen at the receiving dock? Is it all manual or is there an easier way?
Just to complicate it more - we are using Mobile Supply Chain - any experience with that and lot numbers? And, Cath lab is looking to go live with Epic's CUPID, if that makes any difference to the answers so there will be interfacing as well.
Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated! Thanks!

There are several options for replenishing your Cath Lab inventory. Have you determined which method you would use (i.e. IT, DT, PO, etc.)?
Lot numbers have to be entered at the time of receiving (depending on how you receive into inventory) and again when you go to issue from inventory. Lawson uses invoked screens called "WalkThru" where item details, such as lot numbers, are captured. You might need to tweek MSCM to handle the capture this info so that it works as desired. Lawson should not allow you to issue an expired lot or item (I've test this from WH130).

We use Serial Numbers, not Lot Numbers, but I believe the functionality is similar. Either flag can be configured by item to require entry of the Serial or Lot at Receipt AND at Issue (flag = R) OR at Issue only (flag = I).
