We have some remote users who will have Portal freeze up with no error message (occasionally a Browser 503 error) - could be a few times a day. Users eventually kill their Internet Explorer session and start a new one.
Could IOS need tuning? Any tips for the Performance Monitoring Infrastructure? Or would it more likely be the remote connections with issues.
Likely, it could be the connection/latency/packets/loss they are experiencing since internal users run the same portal just fine. It could be some error prone version of IOS/Portal/Browsers we are using. We are working to improve connections and reduce packet loss. But I wonder if and when IOS Websphere is tuned for remote Portal users.
Remote users prior to Portal ran fine in LID (which is of course client server).
we are AIX Unix, IOS Websphere 6.1.0.17 with LSF 9.0.0.6 on a newer server that's CPU is idle.
The oracle database is on a different server.
Thank You

Are your remote users from different locations on the go? I have seen "slow" internet connection freeze up with error 503 on wireless sprint network etc. There is really nothing I can do in those cases.

HI, thanks for the response. They are static office users (non wifi) but some in remote rural locations. The worst is a satellite user which has very poor performance (but the satellite worked fine for LID) We’ve tried having that user Citrix in to a local server but the results were the same. Over the weekend, I did increase our heap sizes for initial from default to 256 and max from the default to 1024 for the server. Another option is to start a second server but I’m not even sure the first one is maxed out. Likely it’s just internet slowness since in-house users are fine but figured I’d try all I can.

We have experienced issues with users accessing portal over a satellite connection as well. They are on our network (not VPN-ed in) but portal freezes up on them. LID works fine for us as well, I would also be interested to hear if anyone has come up with tuning to help with this.

Hi, we did try two overlooked features in Security/Portal Role Maintenance called "use compact transactions" and "use local form cache" to keep data at the PC. both those items are assigned to a role and the user is then assigend that new role. but the results were the same - it may work for someone else.
