We have a program which allows employees to work off education loan balances based on a set amount per hours worked. Currently this is all done manually. Ideally I would like to bring this process into Lawson. I was looking to see how some other people out there are handling this type of situation

Something similar that we do is reuse the Training module (something we currently don't use at all for anything else), to track our tuition reimbursement. That allows us to enter the semester info (we use TR04) along with the funds reimbursed (we use TR12). With the amounts on TR12, we can extract them out and sum up to see entire tuition reimbursement amount paid out. Then when someone terminates employment before the reimbursement agreement, we can use TR12 to determine all paid out and what we need to reclaim back.

With your situation, you could write queries to pull the loan balance that you could store in TR12, and the hours worked in the appropriate pay codes, and do a summary that way. All could be automated with Crystal or whatever. Even if you wanted to constantly decrease the balance of the loan as the employee works, you could automate an upload to update TR12 to reflect the correct balance.

Thanks for the info Jeremy. Unfortunately that method will not work for us. We are currently using the TR module to track internal training and qualification classes, and do not want to muddy the waters by putting external education information there. For standard tuition reimbursement we are recording the classes in PA20 then using PR deductions to handle the payment side. The difficulty is the case in which we have employees in which we forgive the student loans based on the hours worked.
