Convert LBI Reports to Business Objects

I’ve been thinking along the similar lines.
As you may know, LBI is more or less a version of BOE, with some restrictions and customization. LBI embeds BOE components for the actual report generation, but adds a customized interface to the Lawson database, and uses a custom scheduling interface rather than the regular BOE interface. But the “full” BOE product includes a lot of other things that aren’t included in LBI too.
I suspect the Lawson custom database interface might be able to be used with the BOE infrastructure – in which case you would perhaps be able to run your existing LBI reports pretty much unchanged in BOE. That would I think still require a LBI license to use that interface, but you wouldn’t necessarily need a “real” LBI server.
Or, you could forget the custom Lawson interface and just create your BOE reports based on the regular database interface to your underlying database, Oracle or whatever. That would be simpler, but those 600 reports might take a lot of effort to convert.

I have been to 2 users conferences and the contacts I met indicated that they trust the security in LBI even though the user and report set up require some additional maintenance. I have found anyone who encourages converting Lawson Report distribution from LBI to Business Objects. The control of report bursting and drill down security appear to be priamry concerns.
