Occassional blank LBI report

We are having an annoying problem with running LBI reports. They will occasionally display blank output. The workaround is to clear out the temporary internet files, cookies, etc... in the IE web browser (Tools -> Options). I thought it might be due to not enough space allocated for temporoary internet files and cookies so I increasing the amount of allocated space to 1024 MB but this did not help.

This happens on various reports so we know that it is not report-specific. One moment a they display good output and then later it will be blank.

Our fiddler trace shows nothing helpful and Lawson Support does not know what is causing this.

Has anyone had this problem and, if so, how did you fix it?

I would enable "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" under IE Advanced settings tab.
Also, set the lawson portal/LBI portal as "Local Intranet" under IE security tab
Another thing I would try is to increase LBI session timeout set it to like 600 just for testing. Perhaps your user was away on lunch, came back, click report and it comes up blank (and the LBI session has timed out?)

You may also want to check your web server configuration and performance logs. If you are on WebSphere, you'll want to check your RS (reporting services) and FS (framework services) connection pools using Tivoli Performance Viewer within WebSphere while you are getting the white screen(s). We found that we were getting the white screens when our connection pools were exhausted. If your FS is showing a high number, that means you have so many connections to LBI that it is exhausting the resources available to WebSphere. If your RS is showing a high number, you have too many reports running or being viewed. WebSphere will therefore show the white screen until resources are available to process the request. You may also want to look at your java heap setting to make sure WebSphere is tuned to use the right amount of memory. Adding memory to your server is never a bad idea, but you must tell WebSphere that the new memory is there and that it should use it.

Try opening a case with Lawson GSC, and specifically asking them to review your WebSphere settings with you. They will assign a WebSphere expert to your case and help you tune your settings based on their recommendations and the available memory on your server.

We're having a similar issue when we applied ESP 8 to our server. Could you share the resolution that ended up working for you?

This indeed was an annoying nightmare of an issue. It has been a long time since we resolved it and by looking at my notes we had 2 occurrences of the issue.

In the first case, many users were getting the blank screen which was caused by our "F-Secure" anti-virus software that often blocked reports. We installed a new anti-virus software and the problem went away.

In the second case, only one user was getting the problem which was resolved by rebuilding the user's PC.

Therefore, if I had to narrow it down to one cause, I would say that the "F-Secure" anti-virus software was the cause.
