we are moving from 8.1 apps to 9.0.1 and want to use server 2008. Proc Flow Prof is not yet certified to work with server 2008, we are considering purchasing PFI. Question is, how much work is it to install PFI and then migrate over the process flows? We are on a short sched with the upgrade and do not want to hurt ourselves with a learning curve and complex install of another piece.

Our other option is hope that while not certified, PCP works file with server 2008. Anyone have any experience with this?

The amount of work to migrate your flows would be the same for PFP as it is for PFI. PFP is being decommissioned so I didn't think you could still get it anyway.

Oh...we already have Process Flow Professional which we will be migrating the flows the the 9.0.1 version.

Are you saying that it would not be any more work to take our current flows from PFP ver 8 to PFP ver 9 as it would to just go from PFP 8 to PFI??

Yes, PFI has more functionality but your flows would migrate the same.

ProcessFlow Integrator vs. Standard vs. Professional is really just a matter of installing an "unlocking" tool on the desktop(s) on which the Designer is used. It simply unlocks additional features for use within the flows. There is no separate server install except that with PFI you can configure and use JDBC in your flows to read/write databases.

When we upgraded to apps 9.01, we also included the PFI. It was the same work as moving our flows with LSF9.0. There was no additional workload. It is as John indicated, it just unlocks the ability to use more functions and utilize Pflow with datasources outside Lawson.  Since Pflow professional is being decommissioned and there is no additional workload to migrate the flows, it is the easy decision to make.

Unless you plan to use the BCI connectors, there isn't any additional "install" steps to PFI.  There is additional configuration required if doing SQL (JBDC setup) or Landmark (server configuration).

Hi Beverly -

You will want to keep an eye peeled for Lawson Portal Patch #177930 - on 9.0.1.4 Environment - Lawson had to make modifications to the 'inbasket.js' include file so that the XML inbasket would display properly. I discovered this bug during a 9.0.1 Apps PF Migration/Upgrade project for a large public sector client - a real pain! Quite honestly, I would expect similar type issues when using IE8 or Windows 2008 - so you could be bleeding edge here.

I assume you are on the latest 9.0.x Environment release while migrating from 8.1 to 9.0.1 Apps - otherwise you should also keep in mind the significant differences between version 8 Process Flow (.flo) and version 9 Process Flow (.xml). You could have significant re-work on your Flows for things like Email notification and/or data calls etc. I'm guessing you are already past that work though.

PFI is a great tool if you choose to deploy it - the SQL calls and Web Services interfaces are really nice for integrating to other ERP systems or a legacy application etc. There are no differences on the Server side, only differences with the Developer tool set and the PF Enabler Key used to unlock the PFI functionality.
