We are in the process of rolling out ESS to 4,000+ users and are trying to limit the maintenance on ESS passwords.  I have a few questions:

  1. What logic do you use to assign the initial ESS password (ex. birth year+last 4 of SSN)?
  2. Do you allow ESS users to change their password?
  3. Do you force users to change their password after initial log on?
  4. Do Lawson users have two separate ID's, one for ESS/MSS and a separate ID if they are a Lawson application user?

Thanks.

We use the first letter of the employees legal first name + the first letter of their last name + the four digit year of their birth + the 2 digit month of their birth. We are not allowed to use any part of SSN in a password. This is only their initial, temporary password, then they are forced to change their password.

We setup a security question and answer in hopes that employees will be able to reset their own password if necessary.

Depending on what access the employee needs, in the 8.0.3 environment, they can have 3 logins - one for MSS, one for ESS and one for application access. This limits what a manager can see as far as deductions and other information for their employees but as an employee they need to see that information.

Hope this helps.

Good morning.

Could you contact me at flores@cshl.edu?  I have questions on how you setup and used your security question for user to reset their own password.
