I apologize if I'm not posting this in the right place.

I'm curious as to the IT staffing model for Lawson administration. Here's our profile:

Industry: Healthcare
Apps: 9.0.1
Environment: 9.0.1
Database: Oracle 11g
Platform: AIX 5.3
Production: 1 app server, 1 database server
TEST: 1 app/database server
Apps: Materials Management, HR, Payroll, GL, AP, RSS with pflow, MSS, ESS, LBI reporting (on windows, separate server), fax integrator, EDI (moving to GHX this year)
Users: ~60 daily app users, 2700 employees, 100 managers, 300 requesters

(I probably left some things out). We upgraded from 7.3.3, then to 8.0.3, then to 9.0.1, planning to move to 9.1. We did this with some 3rd party consulting. We don't do a lot of customization. When we do it's usually a report in a custom system code or an exit program.

We do this with one full-time admin/DBA in IT. I assist (the manager) with pflow and web apps, another guy writes 4GL reports and helps with LBI.

I'd like to get in touch with other clients facing staffing challenges and compare notes.

Hi Mike,

I work in a HealthCare organization with the exact same system configuration as you, except no LBI reporting. We have around 300 daily app users, 7700 employees and around 900 requesters. Our system has minor customizations except for ESS which is loaded with them.

For IS support we have two Lawson administrators that handle access requests, CTPs, Processflow, some upgrade installations (not WebSphere and Tivoli) and simple customizations. We have a team of DBAs that manage all Oracle databases, and Unix admins that manage all UNIX servers to support our databases and servers, but they are not dedicated resources.

For large installation project (like the 9.0.1 upgrade) and major customizations we contract with 3rd party.

I work at a health care facility as well. We have a similar setup, except we too do not have LBI. We have approx 6000 employees, 300 Lawson users, and another 500 RSS users. The core Lawson team here consists of a team leader, 2 system analysts, and 3 programmers. We are also looking at hiring a dedicated system administrator. The system analysts deal with day to day application problems, security changes, and lead projects. The programmers work on those projects, perform installs, and upgrades. Other than those individuals we have an Oracle DBA who is not dedicated specifically to Lawson. We also have a Unix System Admin who supports server maintenance and assists with WebSphere, but he too is not dedicated to Lawson. Hope this helps. Great feedback. Thank you. I'm being challenged on my staffing and am looking to compare our IT resources with others.

One other thing, there is a dedicated analyst in HR and MM. In Payroll and GL there are also primiary analysts but that is not their primary job. If your IT staffing includes the application analyst work, I'd like to know that. We suppliment a lot of application people (especially as they turn over) but always walk the line between IT support and application-specific support.

I did not mention in my post above that there is also and HR IT Analyst and Financial IT Analyst. They are not considered part of the IT department but they do Application Analyst type functions and act as a go between, between their departments and IT. Our Materials Management folks do not have a position with a specific title but they also have a couple of users who are more like super users or analysts that assist when they can.

I have 2 in IT myself and a assistant. We have all system codes running, Including Stragetic Sourcing, contract management is next. In addition we have LBI, Learning manager, BSI, MHC document express, document imaging, document self service, Linked thru employee self service which the users can access from home, manager self service, I use a 4 line right fax software for sending out po's as well as email. I have interfaces between the various systems like Kronos and Smartfind. I also am the go between the various departments. I am currently looking for another resource. I also have a dozen windows servers with various software on them.
