Change required field to not required in DS

No. To make a required field not required, you'd have to change the underlying .scr form definition, at a minimum (as well as the COBOL logic, depending on what field you're talking about). Remember that Design Studio is really only supposed to be used for "presentation" changes, not business logic changes. While you can add to the business logic via Design Studio (however, I'd argue that that is not a good idea), you can't subtract.
