Has anyone turned on the auto assignment of numbers after manually assigning numbers for a long time?

We are currently manually assigning employee numbers in Lawson.  Unfortunately our numbers are not consistent and we have used four digit numbers as well as 6 or 7 digit numbers.

If we were to turn on the auto assignment of employee numbers, would it know to skip numbers that were already in use or would the random numbers that we used be a problem?

Ie) if we set the last number used to 31000, would it skip 31222 since that number is already being use?

Yes, we, in the past assigned employee numbers manually and now we use auto employee.

We also, occasionally, turn off the auto employee and go back to assigning employee ID's - like when we create a new process level and move a new group of employees into Lawson. We often assign their employee ID to their record before we load them to Lawson.

I can also verify that - yes - it will skip an employee ID when it finds it is already in the system. So if you manually set your last employee ID to 31000 - it will skip 31222 when it reaches that number.
