We are upgrading our LSF901 environment to ESP6, and that requires us to upgrade WebSphere from 6.1 to 7.0. I have been looking for documentation from Lawson and found almost nothing except a link to an IBM site, so I am curious about any recommendations from this group. We are currently planning to do the WebSphere upgrade, env service pack install, and MSP install in the same weekend, so I want to make sure I go about this in the right way.
I see options of migration and coexistence for the WAS upgrade. What worked for you?
Our environment - AIX 5.3 64-bit, LSF901ESP4, WAS 6.1, Oracle, apps 901MSP2. Thanking you in advance.

We went the co-existence route. I didn't do the install but I believe all the documentation was from IBM and then we just copied the parameters currently used in WAS.
Cheers.

I talked with a couple of installers at CUE. They were right, you can pretty much uninstall the old WAS, install the new, load the new lawson EARs, change the paramters in KB 20520 and you're off and running.

We are getting ready to perform the same upgrade starting tomorrow morning. Our environment is exactly the same (AIX 5.3 64-bit, LSF9014, WAS 6.1, Oracle 10) except we are on MSP 4 of apps. I am finding after trying to ask Lawson support and from a few others who have done this before, that the best way to perform this upgrade is to do a new install of WebSphere 7 and then configure Websphere7 for Lawson. I plan on trying to document the steps of this install as I go along and would be happy to share how things go if you are interested.

I don't see KB 20520. Can you check the number?

OK, so uninstall and reinstall is yet another option besides migrate and coexistence? How different are the setup parameters in 7 vs 6.1?

For what it's worth, I just found out about a new parameter that was causing some of my user's DME queries to fail (primarily the query wizard in the MS-Office Add-Ins).
For your WebSphere Application Server(s), there is a group of web server plug-in properties. Go to your admin console in Websphere and go to Servers -> Server Types -> WebSphere application servers. From your application sever configuration page, click on the "Web server plug-in properties" link under Additional Properties. From the properties page, you'll see that the Read/Write timeout value is set to 60 seconds. If any of your DME queries take longer than this to complete, your users will get an HTTP500 error returned back to MS-Excel. Based on recommendations from Lawson, I set this value to 1800 seconds. I then regenerated and propagated my plug-in and restarted all of my WebSphere and HTTP services. I've had no problems with DME queries since. Supposedly, Lawson is generating a KB article that discusses this issue.
If you're using a cluster in WebSphere, remember to check / update this property for each application server in your cluster.
