We are looking at changing our entire GL structure (yes, I know we are crazy). How many characters is the GL Account number (we call those object codes and other places call them expense accounts)? I see that in GL00 size=6 for GDT-Account, but we are confused since we see several other things. We were wanting to move to 6 digit account numbers for expenses, but now are not sure if it has to be 4.
GL00 has GDT-ACCOUNT (Account) as size=6
IC11 has ITE-ISS-ACCOUNT (Issue Account) as size=6
IC11 has ITE-ISS-SUB-ACCT (Issue Subaccount) as size=4
IC12 has ITL-GL-CATEGORY (GL Category) as size=4
IC81 has ITL-GL-CATEGORY (GL Category) as size=4
IC04 has ICA-GL-CATEGORY (General Ledger Category) as size=4
IC04 has ICA-INV-ACCOUNT (Account) as size=6
Just as an FYI, we are changing our account structure to mirror UNSPSC.
Thanks for your help!

The account size is the same throughout the system. The GL category fields you are referencing is a "group" of account unit and accounts that can be specified for a number of different types of transactions. No need to worry. The length of 6 for the account will work for you. If you go to IC04, you will see all of the different types of transactions/accounts and how you can specify account units and accounts to default when these occur.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
