Adding javascript functions to Design Studio

Has anybody successfully added javascript functions to the UI Designer section of Design Studio?? I could use onkeypress for PA31 to asterick the SSN as it's entered, but it's not a selection. I've found where it could possibly be added in designer.xml and dom.xml, but I'm not sure if that's the real answer.

Any ideas??
