I'm getting an error trying to get into IPD either logging into our test instance or working offline. The message says "An error has occurred. See the log fie". The log is very lengthy, but the start of it says:

IPD was working fine for me earlier in the morning. I hadn't changed anything so I'm not sure what happened. There was an issue with IPA that we have on prem. Our administration rebooted the server, restarted the grid and ibm websphere. He can telnet into the server via the port I have configured in my connections. So I'm not sure if there's something going on with IPD or if there's something else the admin needs to do.

I would just reinstall IPD

I tried that. Running under administrator. Now the app won't even open. I double-click the desktop icon or try to run the .exe from the folder. I see something flash on the screen then nothing happens. No login screen.

Did you first uninstall the Designer through Control Panel?

Is IPD now under Programs and Features in Control Panel? We have always had to run the installer again and select the Delete option.

I'm trying to install 10.1.0.25. It does not install and show in Programs and Features. Maybe in the newer version it goes there, but I'm not upgrading yet. I ran the installer again to Delete. I am running 64bit windows if it helps to know that. The installation instructions says that it can be installed 32 or 64 bit depending on where you set the java directory. I tried to install again with 32bit. I checked the log file and I see:

The error message in the previous message looks like it is trying to install 64-bit libraries on a 32-bit JVM. Did you have 64-bit before? Any chance you received a Java update on your PC?

I don't recall where I heard/read this, but I thought that IPD required 64-bit Java.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I had it using the 64bit version of java and working last week. 2 days ago is when the error about a stackoverflow started so I uninstalled. I did look at my program files and noticed Java 1.8 was installed on 6/1/16. If that was the problem wouldn't it have caused an issue that same day or the next time I was in it?

I've tried to reinstall setting the JAVA_HOME and path for install to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_20 and on open of the app I get the error in the log. I get the same if I set JAVA_HOME and the install path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_20. So neither is working for me.

The latest installation guide says it can handle both.

I mistyped. Java version 1.8 was installed 6/1/15 not 2016.

I ended up fixing this by uninstalling IPD, uninstalling all versions of java, reinstalling java 1.6 for 32bit and 64bit. When I reinstalled IPD it worked without error and I was able to get the to the login screen this time. Something was up with my version of java. Still not entirely sure what happened.
