We are looking to have employees not currently enrolled in our 403b default into the plan for 1%. Has anyone done this before? How was it accomplished? How do you track? Any pitfalls?
Thanks

Our administrator requires separate plan codes so our default 3% contribution is set up as a plan, not a contribution record. You could set up to default by plan type or plan category depending on your set up. Not knowing what, if any match schedule you may have, it's hard to determine if it can be set up as a contribution record.
We really prod employees to either complete their enrollment paperwork or waive contributions immediately instead of defaulting simply because its a defined contribution plan, and if their money is withheld from their pay because they didn't make an election, they can't have it simply reimbursed. Even if they initially waive contributions, they can go on line at any time and begin having withholding into the plan.

Stephanie, we have a bargained group for whom employee 401(k) contributions at a rate of 4% of their compensation are mandatory. I've set up a default 401(k) plan; however, when I run the BN101 to auto enroll employees, they are enrolled but with no contribution. The employee deduction code attached to the plan isset up in PR05 for a deduction of 4%, but the percentage won't default when added in BN32. Do you know of a way the plan can be set up in BN15 so that employees are automatically enrolled with a 4% deferral rate?

Set up plan contribution type 3 (flat contributions). PR05 deduction code calc type P (percent), do not enter the 4 % on PR05. Define contribution record (BN18.3), calc type 2, enter 4 in employee field.
