We are currently on ESP9 and are encountering a problem that may force us to go to ESP10 earlier than we wanted to. I believe that ESP11 is currently available. Can anyone tell if you can JUMP from ESP9 to ESP11, and if so, what the potential problems might be, if any? I don't particularly care to be 2 ESP's back, it's just sort of happened that way and I'm looking for a quick way to get current. Thanks in advance for your help!

Absolutely. I just did this for a client having the same issue you are.

Thanks for responding. Did you encounter any problems making that sort of jump? I would assume that ESP11 must contain all of the patches contained in ESP10 then. We're on UNIX too and are considering this but my director is very nervous about applying that many patches at the same time.

Not exactly. ESPs that are one or two away from each other (eg: ESP10 and ESP11), may not contain all of the same patches, in particular those that are released between code freeze and public release of the subsequent ESP.
This is the reason that some JTs are made available as fixes for multiple ESPs.
An simplified example:
Patch 12345 is released on Jan 1st for ESP10
ESP 11 is code frozen on Jan 7th
Patch 23456 is released on Jan 15th for ESP10
ESP 11 is released to the public on Jan 15th
Patch 23456 will not be in ESP 11, and as such, ESP11 will have a bug that has been resolved in ESP10

So it sounds like it would be best to install ESP10, then install ESP11, test it and then release the system to users?

Does that mean I need to install ESP10 first and then install ESP11 in order to ensure I get all of the updates?

Install ESP11, apply patches for ESP11.
(Yes, skip ESP10)
If a bug is addressed in ESP10, and you discovered it in ESP11 and you cannot find the corresponding patch for it. Open an inforextreme support and tell them they reintroduced the bug in ESP11.
Majority of the patches, they have it for every supported ESP version, they are always one off on the patch number.
IE:
patch_12344 for ESP9
patch_12345 for ESP10
patch_12346 for ESP11
