Has anyone successfully installed BSI 9.0 on the application server yet?

They've now added licensing to the mix. Each desktop that uses the BSI client must now have a user license installed on their PC's before they can use the client software. The license can be generated from the BSI website once you provide the hostname of the PC, and some processes information.

And if you thought you were finished there, then you have to generate a license for the server portion as well. This is also generated from the BSI website once you provide the hostname and serial number of the server. No license installed, then no PR80, PR140, etc.

Getting this license loaded is tricky part. And this is why I'm asking if anyone (on Unix) has successfully got this to work yet. The lady at BSI mentioned something about our ODBC settings. I sure hope that we don't have to setup ODBC on the Unix servers.

I have bsi 9.0 running...We didn't have any issues...no odbc config. required on the unix server, this is done on the client's machine.

The client/server machine key generation/installs were pretty straight forward...I had to ask BSI what to put in for datasets and processes values...BSI recommends setting the processes and datasets to ‘9’ for each. This will provide more than what will be required.

Once you generate the keys from BSI's website, you have to copy the server key to your application server and run a script called "tf90lic".
The script and the key must be in the same directory or you have to specify the path when you run it....i just put the key in $TAXFACTORY, where all the BSI binaries live and ran it...you shouldn't get the "no license installed error" after that.

Let me know if this helps...good luck!

Yeah, I eventually got it working.  I had to set the DATABASE variable, which we never had to before since we used the bsisetup utility.  Anyway, all is good.

        Thanks,

        Jeff

If you install 9.0.b1 the client license for the client is not required. Good day.

We are presently testing 9.0.c. We have installed it but the functionality of the product is far from satisfactory. Fighting the battle of incorrect taxes etc.

                    Hi Venkat,

This is Kathy from BSI Support.  I am concerned that you are experiencing difficulties in your testing of TF90C.  You mention incorrect taxation, and that is another concern.  We would love the opportunity to work with you to determine what may be happening in your specific scenarios.  If you would contact us directly, we could work with you directly.  We can be reached by email or at 877-274-7873 option 1.

                    Regards,

We have employees working in every possible state in the country and so reciprocity in taxes between states is a key area. We have seen quite a few differences in taxes in what is computed between TF8 and TF9. These were reported to BSI sometime in June. We are still trying to resolve the differences with BSI.

Make sure you are on at least 9.0.0.8. And if you install 9.0.d.2 then you don't need a machine license key, except for the server. And the client has an install machine key feature, so you don't need to do it from the command line.

We are still on version 8.0.3 and now upgrading to 9.0.1.8 which is still in test. Has anyone installed TF9 with 8.0.3? We are having issue with the PR140 not running and when applying the patches PR140 does not compile.

I don't think you can. The TF interface only ships with LSF 9. =
