I am trying to load new assets from a legacy system into Lawson AM. I have uploaded the assets into the system using AM96.1 (AMASSET), AM97.1(AMASTITEM) and AM98.1 (AMASTBOOK). Everything uploaded successfully. However, When I progress to process then using AM500 I get the following message in my report.
"Conversion nbr exists in AMCNVASSET file, use AM300 to purge"
At this point I have run it in non-update mode. Can anyone tell me what this means before I proceed any further? It appies to some assets and not others.
Thanks
Ian

The AMCNVASSET file shouldn't have anything in it unless AM500 has been run in the past. This file keeps a collection of the Conversion number and the Asset number it became. It is useful if you are loading adjustments to existing assets so that it knows what asset to relate with each conversion number.
After you run each AM500, you need to run the AM300 before you do another one that may contain the same conversion number. When I did our conversion last year, we had to load the assets into the temp tables (we used importdb) run the AM500, then run the AM300 before starting the next company.

Thanks Bob. I'm not totally confident about running the AM300 yet. However, I did look in the AMCNVASSET conversion table and saw the duplicate numbers. I'm going to use a new set of conversion numbers that has a unique range. I'll keep you posted on how I get on. Once again, thanks for you response. It helped alot.

Sounds good. Just so you know, you can run the AM300 just for the conversion numbers. It is one of the options on the form, so there's no risk to running it if you don't have any adjustments you're doing.
Good luck

Hi Bob,
It that the conversion numbers flag on the AM300. If I set that to "Y" will it only purge the items in the AMCNVASSET table? One other question. Is there an order that I need to run the AM96.1, AM97.1 & AM98.1 in?
Thanks
Ian

Correct, the conversion numbers flag = "Y" and all the others set to "N" wll only purge the conversion numbers.
As for doing the AM96, AM97, and AM98, I don't think there is a specific load order required. I usually loaded the AM96 first just so that all of the conversion numbers would have something to attach to. The AM97 and AM98 could be done in either order. You do need to have all 3 loaded completely before you run the AM500.

Hi Bob,
ok, I understand this a lot better now. I did go ahead and try the purging of the conversion numbers from the AMCNVASSET table and that worked fine. Thanks for that. However, the conversion file was still loaded and so I deleted the items that I did not need and so the assets loaded successfully into asset management using AM500. I ran my AM260 to make sure all assets where there and that was fine too. I then ran the AM170 to process the journal entry to the GL but no Journal entry exists only the list of assets with a comment of "Updated for depreciation" . So, it looks like I'll need to enter that manually through GL40.
*******UPDATE*********
Just read that no Journal entries are created when converting assets using AM500. So, I will have to create the journal entries manually using GL40.
Again, thanks for your help. You have been extremely helpful.
