Due to resource and other constraints our prdistrib table grows to a huge table. I wonder anybody out there ever using Oracle partition for prdistrib. If so, how do you do the partition?

You can certainly partition PRDISTRIB, but I'm not sure what benefit you would get. It's not like it would get any smaller. If you had long running reports scanning the entire table they might possibly be sped up by parallelism. The process requires unloading the table, deleting and redefining the table via Oracle tools, and reloading the data.

Partitioning might gain a little performance if you have many companies and use company as a partition parameter. Typically dbas use partitioning more for storage management, not performance, though, right?

If we know how lawson perform transaction with this table(just insert record, or update old record in a payroll cycle?),  thenwe should be able to come up with  a better partition  for improvement.  Does  anybody know what transaction  go after this table?
