We're looking at upgrading our hardware from a HP-UX box thats hitting EOL to a AIX 6.1 box.  We'll be upgrading from LSF 9.006 to 9.0.1.5 (or higher).  We're leaning towards leaving the Apps on 9.0.0.5 or upgrading to 9.0.0.7, we don't really want to go through the additional pain of upgrading to 9.0.1 apps at the same time.   We also have a LBI server on 9.0.3.0 that we plan on leaving alone unless we have to upgrade.

Anyone gone through a similar upgrade or made the switch to new hardware and have any advice/warning to share?  Any major issues with upgrading LSF from 9.0.0.6 to 9.0.1.5?

Are you also upgrading from 32 bit LSF 9.0.0.6 to 64 bit LSF 9.0.1.5?

You are making a good move, you won't have any issues with software etc. The trickiest thing is making sure all of your 64bit stuff is squared away with the ancillary apps.

Thats the current plan.  Our new hardware will support 64 bit so unless we run into a licensing issue or technical issue in our research we're planning on going to 64 bit.

64 bit is a whole new beast. You will need to set up a whole new environment seperately. You can't copy the productline also from 32 bit environment since they are not compatible.

              Hey Joel,

Your upgrade from ENV 9.0.0.6 to 9.0.1.5 will have to be more of a migration due to moving from 32 bit to 64 bit and your move to a new server. Productline's can be copied from 32 bit ENV's to 64 bit ENV's as you would copy them in your current 32 bit env. Then you can upgrade your apps from 9.0.0.5 to 9.0.0.7 on the 901 64 ENV as you would in a 900 32 bit ENV. The applications are still 32 bit in a 64 bit os, the environment is new with 64 bit.

I had to do the same thing 3.5 years ago. Our DEC Alpha's where decom'd and I had to move everything to AIX UNIX. 8.0.3 to 9.0.0.2 apps and env.

I did an install of 8.0.3 apps and env. onto AIX and got everything working there first. I then setup the 9.0.0.x environment and apps on the same machine and migrated the 8.0.3 data into the 9.0.0.3. We went throught the process a couple of times to make sure we didn't have any problems.

Doing the double install on AIX is a pain initially, but it'll save you a lot of headaches if you don't. You can make sure everything is working and tested before you move your users and data to the new hardware.
