We currently have test and production servers running AIX 5.2, DB2 8.1(Prod), DB2 8.2(Test),Websphere 6.1. We need to upgrade to DB2 to version 9, but to do that we also need to upgrade the operating system to 5.3 and go from 32 bit kernel to 64 bit kernal. Looking for information on any issues that I need to be aware of when doing this. So far my research has found that I can run our current versions of DB2 and Websphere. Lawson support says that I will have to recompile my apps. I will need or should apply some patches to the C compiler. Are there any other changes to configurations for Lawson Environment, DB2 and Websphere that will need to be made? Any issues that you can think of? We are LSF 9.0.0.7, Apps Release 9.0.0 MSP7. Thank you.

When you go to the 64 bit system (AIX) make sure that you also include the 64 bit MFCobol Compiler - which is the reason that Lawson indicates that you need to re-compile the programs. Pay particular attention to the download programs for your levels of OS, ENV, and WAS from the Lawson site - as when we originally stepped through this process, we inadvertantly picked the 32 bit downloads instead of the 64 bit downloads. Good Luck!

Thank you Lee. Funny that Lawson support did not mention the need for 64 bit MFCobol compiler. They just said to recompile.

Are your DB2 server on the same server as your lawson environment server?
Are you upgrading "only" your DB2 server to version 9/64bit and keeping the 32 bit lawson ENV/APP?
If they are on seperate servers, all you need to do is upgrade the database server OS/DB2 assuming you are keeping the 32 bit lawson ENV/APP.

If they are on the same server, then it's gonna get messy and I would recommend a "stop & plan again" on this.

            Hi Jimmy,
They are both on the same server. Can you give some more details on "stop & plan again"? Thank you for your input.
