I was sure this would have been discussed somewhere on this board, but all I could find were references to the tables and building reports from the RS or FS database. I personally do not have access to the reporting server, so I will need to be able to explain the connection process to another person (at our technology partner). Can someone help me with this?
    Thanks in advance :D

      I can try to help.
Depends on what the connection will be used for... Are we talking about an ODBC connection, or a Oracle Server connection, or a connection to MS-SQL?

I'm assuming from the mention of 'report' in the original post, we need to connect Crystal to the RS or FS databases.
You'll need to set up the connection on every computer where the designer physically runs.
ODBC, or whatever the connection type needs to be.

Then if you are going to publish these via LBI - You'll need to set up the connection again exactly like it is set up but on the server where the RAS runs from (at a minimum).

        Greg,
        Thanks for the reply.
The idea is for the LBI Administrator to be able to query the FS and RS database tables for reports such as some I have seen mentioned in this forum (eg. Report Users, Report lists, report schedules, etc)
I would expect to set up an ODBC on my PC, and also in LBI so the resulting reports can be run by other HRIS folks from there. So, that said, I get it that connections need to be on the user's PC and in LBI, but what I don't know is what to tell the third party folks (since I'm pretty sure they have never done this before) to look for as the data source. Maybe I'm thinking too much, is it really as simple as asking them to create a data connection to the LBI tables? I just wanted to be as specific as I could from the beginning....

Yes, Robby it should be that simple. With the proper credentials, all they need to do is set up and ODBC connection to whatever your FS and RS schemas are called. Since some of the software is still 32-bit, make sure that you use the proper Data Source setup icon in your windows box. I'll see if I can't get you screen shots of how I set this up here. (If you want them.)

Great! I'll give it a shot. Yes, please send screen shots, that would be a great help. Send to RLESCAULT@COMCAST.NET.
