With internal controls, it would not be uncommon for a JE that a staff member creates to have six touch points as it goes from creation to entry (signatures, someone keys, someone reviews in Lawson). Currently, any JE that needs to be keyed into GL40 is on paper to get the necessary signatures. Has anyone had someone design a better way for JE's to get into Lawson, perhaps using process flow? We use GL165 for larger imports, but I've envisioned someone creating a spreadsheet, approvals are captured through email, and the final approver (our controller) would hit something that would push the entry to Lawson. Anyone use a "crazy" method like that?

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for Lawson AddIns. I know we use Addins for JE's here almost exclusively.

We don't have that level of complexity in our JE process. We do use one of the spreadsheet driven uploads for some JEs. Its one of those things that they used to give away and now they charge you $100 in the Lawson Marketplace. Its well worth $100.

But I don't think that totally addresses you question. If you go to GL10 in the Journals tab I think your concern is addressed. Go to the Workflow field- the instructions offer this:
        JE Approval Amount
To flag journal entries over a minimum amount
for Workflow approval, type the minimum journal
entry amount that requires approval. Upon
release, journal entries with an amount greater
than or equal to the defined approval amount
are routed to theWorkflow system for approval.
You must also select Yes in the Workflow field. If
you leave this field blank and select Yes in the
Workflow field, all journal entries are routed to the
        Workflow system for approval.

You'll have to do the rest of the research yourself but I think this is a good starting point.

I am having the same issue. We are planning on getting approvals for journal entries and I have no problems with anything that is processed by GL40, but GL165/GL65 do not use GL40 and bypass the canned trigger. I am concerned that even if I create a new trigger how will I create a Hold status to stop the JE from going straight to Processed.

Has anyone made any headway on this issue?

I am actually working on this JE approval process now on our test system and I can not get GL40/45 to create a workunit? The JE does indicate it is awaiting an approval and I can see it in GL41.4 etc., but no workunits are created. Does anyone have any suggestions or have you experienced this as well?

Do you have the "JE Approval" service enabled in BPM / Process Flow Administration pages?
Thanks for using the LawsonGuru.com forums!

Hi John - Yes, the service is enabled. I can see the approval transaction in GL41.4, but have not been successful generating a workunit.

Check GL10 for the company, and make sure the workflow option is enabled on the 'Journals' tab.
